Hey everyone. My name’s Lilly and I am a second-semester eighth grader with a blog. That’s not that unusual. What’s unusual about me is that I’m self-taught, somewhere between home and unschooled. I’m planning on doing a lot with this blog – reviewing various educational resources, sharing which sites and books I use to learn independently, discussing my thoughts on college and academia in general, and probably just being silly at times. There are a few rules/boundaries I would like my readers to adhere to/respect.
1. I’m not going to tell you what state I’m from. Don’t ask.
2. Please do not come here expecting to get legal advice on the “right” way to home school or un-school. I have absolutely no idea what your state’s requirements are, what your family’s beliefs are, what it would take for you to be successful on the ITBS/ITED or whatever it is your state uses to test you, and what kind of future you want so I am a horrible source of info on that! My best advice if you have no idea what to do or take might be to start off slowly and find someone who knows their shit to help you figure out what’s best for you.
3. Just because I’m nice doesn’t mean I want to be your best friend or have sex with you. Just no.
4. For heaven’s sake, it’s not even legal to ask me for inappropriate pictures so don’t do it!

Homeschooled Daemon 
I have a simple one for you. Why did you pick this particular name for your blog?
I like the idea of daemons, they’re beings I’ve heard related to higher selves or guardian angels – sort of another layer of self that can connect you with knowledge you might not already have in your day-to-day life. When I learned about working with daemons it reminded me a bit of homeschooling or unschooling. While a lot of spiritual work is sort of learning to take on someone else’s guidance or power, working with a daemon is more like unlocking your own ability to learn and grow. So I liked the idea of it I guess. If you can’t tell, I research a lot of unusual stuff.
Did no one ever mention that demons are evil and it would probably not be in your best interest to associate with them? They are not higher humans, nor are they angels (unless you consider them fallen angels).
They have no wisdom of their own to give and cannot tell you the future, only things already done and guesses at possibilities. They have no power, in and of themselves; all their “power” comes from God.
When you increase in wisdom, it is not taking on someone else’s power; you are taking in knowledge and learning to apply it in your own life.
While I commend research (I do a lot of it myself), I am a little concerned about where you got your information. I would hate for you to delve into something which could be quite dangerous!
Daemons =/= demons.
How would you describe the difference? I am enjoying hearing your perspective.
I’m not the absolute best person on Earth to explain this because I don’t know a ton about demonology or even daemons but I can try to explain the basics.
My understanding is that a demon is usually a creature referred to in Christian or possibly Islamic (I’m not sure if Islam believes in demons but I’m about 85% sure they do) type religions that is on the side that opposes God. Different people have different views on those I’m sure – mainstream Christianity generally holds that demons are out to seduce human beings into turning against God, others might see some demons in different lights (some religions don’t share those views of demons but that’s not something I feel really equipped to talk about).
The term “daemon” comes from Greco-Roman antiquity I think. Daemons were either seen as benevolent or indifferent/neutral beings that were somewhere between the humans and the gods. They functioned a bit like angels in Christianity wherein they were not actually gods but could sometimes give people important messages or teach them important lessons. The idea of a personal daemon often refers to the idea that a person has a being involved with them who is not a demon or a dark entity so much as a part of themselves that has access to knowledge they may not have in their mundane lives. At least, that’s how I had it explained to me.
Interesting… While I would not hold to those beliefs myself, this have definitely given me something to research. Do you mind my asking who shared this with you? (Not specifically, just generally; e.g. teacher/parent/internet.)
There is a difference between a “daemon” in the Greco-Roman sense and a “demon” in Christian mythology.

I’ve just had a read of some of your posts and I wanted to say how great it is to see you’re taking responsibility for your own learning, and how motivated you are, well done!
